Understanding Source of Funds and Source of Wealth Requests

Learn the difference between "Source of Funds" and "Source of Wealth" checks, when each may apply, and why they are required as part of Gnosis App compliance with financial regulations.

As a regulated financial service, our Card Services Provider may occasionally request information about your financial background.

This guide explains two common checks, Source of Funds (SoF) and Source of Wealth (SoW), what each one means, when it might occur, and why they’re essential for compliance and security.

💠 What’s the Difference?

The key difference between the two requests is their timing and level of detail. Here is a simple breakdown:

Source of Funds (SoF)

Source of Wealth (SoW)

What is it

A brief explanation of where the money you use with Gnosis Pay comes from.

A deeper look at your full financial history or overall net worth.

Later, only for users with high transaction volumes.

What is required

Documents such as inheritance records, property sale proofs, or portfolio statements.

💠 Why We Ask for This Information?

These checks are a legal requirement across all regulated financial institutions. We ask for this data to:

  • Comply with regulations
Required by anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) laws.

  • Protect your account
Helps us identify transactions that fall outside of your expected usage.

  • Keep Gnosis App secure
Verifying user activity ensures the safety of our ecosystem and card network.

We treat all submitted information with the highest levels of confidentiality and security.
