Gnosis Card enables everyday payments while ensuring that you remain in control of your assets and spending rules. It combines self-custody with secure card payments by using two smart contract modules: the Delay Module and the Roles Module.
Together, these modules allow card payments to be processed securely while ensuring that you remain in control of your funds at all times.
What is the Delay Module?
The Delay Module adds a short 3-minute delay to outgoing transactions initiated from your Gnosis Card Safe.
Why is this important?
The delay provides an additional layer of protection by:
Helping prevent accidental or overlapping transactions.
Providing a short window to react if a transaction appears suspicious.
Adding a failsafe mechanism before a payment is finalised.
This security buffer helps protect your funds while maintaining a smooth payment experience.
What is the roles module?
The Roles Module defines the specific conditions under which Gnosis can initiate payments on your behalf. These rules are enforced directly by smart contracts and can only be modified by you.
What can the roles Module Control?
The Roles Module can restrict:
Stablecoin spending : for example, allowing payments only in a specific stablecoin such as EURe.
Daily spending limits : defining the maximum amount that can be spent within a 24-hour period.
Authorised recipients : ensuring payments can only be sent to the designated Gnosis settlement address.
Delegated payment execution : allowing Gnosis to initiate payments only within the permissions you have approved.
You can update your spending rules, including daily limits, at any time through your Gnosis App settings.
Who controls these modules?
You do. The ownership structure is designed to ensure that control remains with your personal wallet.
Your Personal Wallet → Controls the Delay Module → Which Controls the Gnosis Card Safe
Because your personal wallet sits at the top of this structure:
You remain the owner of the setup.
You can modify or remove the modules.
You retain administrative control at all times.
Gnosis Safe cannot spend funds outside the permissions you have defined.
Does Gnosis have access to my Funds?
No. The Gnosis Card can only initiate payments within the limits and conditions enforced by the Roles Module. It cannot bypass the rules you have configured or take control of your assets.
