Getting started with Communities

Learn the significant changes happening with Communites and how it impacts your experience.

Instead of using the app as a standalone wallet, users participate inside shared social and economic ecosystems built around common interests, values, and participation. Communities introduce a new way to connect, coordinate, and interact through shared currencies, reputation, and contribution.

The move from “Groups” to “Communities” is more than a rename. It is a major redesign of how communities, currencies, and participation work inside the app.

Communities are now designed around two clear purposes:

  • Belonging : joining a cause or identity you care about

  • Utility : accessing real benefits, services, and economic activity

What are Communities?

Communities are groups of users organised around shared goals, identities, causes, or economic activity. Some communities focus on belonging and shared values, while others may provide access to exclusive opportunities, services, or future ecosystem benefits.

How is community discovery changing?

The app is moving from an open directory to a curated experience.

Before

  • Every group was visible

  • Little structure or guidance

Now

  • New users mainly see Gnosis and approved communities

  • Communities are curated and reviewed

  • Communities define their rules

This creates a cleaner and more intentional onboarding experience.

Membership of communities may require

  • A subscription

  • Holding a token

  • Verification or approval from the admins

  • Other community-specific requirements

What are the different types of communities?

The new structure makes communities easier to understand:

Community Type

Main Purpose

Belonging-based

Shared identity and values

Value-driving

Real utility and benefits

What changes are coming to the Communities page?

The new Communities section includes:

  • Featured Communities

  • A clearer “Joined Communities” section

  • Dedicated community search

The experience is designed to feel more organised, browsable, and community-focused.

What happens on a community page?

The page adapts depending on the user’s status.

If eligible to join ➡️ Users see a clear “Join” flow.

If requirements are not met ➡️ The app explains what is needed to join.

If already a member ➡️ Users gain access to member-only features, services, and marketplace benefits.

What is the Total Support score?

Users will be able to see how much they have contributed to a community over time.

This makes community participation more visible and meaningful, both socially and economically.

How do Communities connect to gCRC?

Each community is expected to eventually have its own community currency.

This supports the broader vision of:

  • Sovereign community economies

  • Community-led currencies

  • Localised economic ecosystems

The infrastructure for this is already being prepared

What role do ambassadors play?

Ambassadors help grow local communities and onboard new users.

They may eventually:

  • Build their own communities

  • Manage local ecosystems

  • Earn rewards through community growth

Communities and ambassadors are expected to drive a significant share of user growth.

How does community participation affect Rep Score?

Community activity contributes to your Rep score. Through

  • Economic contribution

  • Participation in communities

  • Verified membership

The intended cycle is:

Join a community → Contribute to it → Increase your Rep Score → Unlock more gCRC → spend within the Circles economy
