How to Delegate Your GnosisDAO Vote Using Gnosis App 🗳️ ?

Learn how to participate in the GnosisDAO with this step-by-step guide.

💡 Good to Know: Direct Voting vs. Delegation

You might be wondering why we are using delegation instead of voting directly with Gnosis App on Snapshot. It comes down to how the networks are set up! Your Gnosis App Safe lives natively on Gnosis Chain, meanwhile, the GnosisDAO Snapshot space currently uses Ethereum as its home base. Since your Safe isn't deployed on Ethereum, direct voting isn't supported right now.

But here is the magic trick: Delegation! Whether you self-delegate to your own external wallet or pass your voting power to a community champion, this method acts as the perfect bridge. You get to unlock your voting power seamlessly from Gnosis Chain, with zero mainnet gas fees involved. 🌉✨

Timing Note: Snapshot calculates voting power at the exact block a proposal is created. This means your delegation will only apply to future votes. If there is an ongoing proposal you want to vote on right now, this new delegation will not apply to it—but you will be perfectly set up for the next one!

🌟 Why Set Up Delegation for Your Gnosis App Safe?

  • 🦉 Shape the Ecosystem: Make your voice heard! Turn the GNO in your Safe into real voting power, letting you guide what the DAO builds, funds, and supports.

  • 🤝 Choose Your Champion: Don't have time to read every GIP? Delegate to a trusted friend or community member who shares your vision. Want to vote on the go? Self-delegate to your external owner wallet to make participating in GnosisDAO faster and easier than ever. ⚡

  • 🛡️ Security First: Delegating only assigns voting power. Your funds and GNO remain in your Gnosis App Safe.

  • ⛽ Gasless / Low-Friction: Because you are using Snapshot and your external owner wallet, participating is smoother than ever.

The Step-by-Step Guide

🔓 Step 1: Add an External Owner Wallet to Your Gnosis App Safe

*(Already added a MetaMask or Rabby wallet to your Safe? Feel free to skip to Step 2!)*

  • ⚠️ Important Security Note: Make sure the wallet you are adding is secure and that you exclusively hold the private keys. Because it acts as an owner, this wallet will have full access to your Gnosis App Safe!

  • Access Your Profile: On the Gnosis App home page, tap your avatar in the top left corner to open your profile page.

  • Open Settings: On the next screen, tap the settings icon ⚙️.

  • Navigate to Wallet Owners: Inside the settings menu, find and tap on the Wallet owners section.

  • Add a New Owner: Tap the + (plus) button in the top right corner and select Add External Owner.

  • Enter Your Wallet Address: Paste the public address of your preferred external wallet (like Rabby, MetaMask, or another EOA).

  • Confirm & Sign: Tap the Add owner button and authenticate the action by signing with your passkey. 🔑

🖥️ Step 2: Open Your Safe

  • Navigate to the Web App: Open your desktop browser and go to app.safe.global.

  • Switch to the Old UI (At the time of writing, the newest Safe UI doesn't fully support all Safe Apps yet) : click Use the old UI at the bottom of the screen.

  • Connect Your Wallet: Connect the external owner wallet (like MetaMask or Rabby) that you just added in Step 1.

  • Add Your Safe: Once connected, click on Add Safes, select your Gnosis App Safe from the list, and hit Save.

  • Open the Safe Dashboard: Click on your Gnosis App Safe from your list of Safes to open its main dashboard.

🔌 Step 3: Launch the Snapshot Safe App

  • Navigate to Apps: Now that you are inside your Safe dashboard, look at the left-hand menu and click on the Apps section.

  • Find Snapshot: Use the search bar in the Apps section to look for Snapshot.

  • Launch the App: Click on the Snapshot icon, then tap the Open Safe app button to launch the embedded Snapshot interface directly inside your Safe.

🔍 Step 4: Find the GnosisDAO Space on Snapshot

  • Search for the Space: Inside the embedded Snapshot interface, look for the Search for a space field at the top left. Type in gnosis.

  • Open GnosisDAO: Scroll down through the search results until you see the official GnosisDAO space, and click to open it.

🤝 Step 5: Configure and Confirm Your Delegation

  • Open the Delegate Menu: Once you are inside the GnosisDAO space, look at the left-hand menu and click on Delegates to open the delegation hub.

  • Initiate Delegation: To delegate your voting power to another address (or to your own external owner wallet), click the + (plus) button on the right side of the page.

  • Enter the Address: In the popup that appears, paste the wallet address of the delegate (or your own external wallet address for self-delegation).

  • Select the Network: Choose Gnosis Chain as the delegation network.

  • Execute & Confirm: Confirm the action. A prompt will appear via your Safe App—simply review the details and sign the transaction with your connected external owner wallet to finalize it! 🚀

💡 Pro Tip: UI Quirk & Verifying Your Delegation

After signing the transaction, the Snapshot menu might still display: "You are not delegating your voting power yet." Don't panic! This is just a known display quirk.

To double-check that your delegation worked, simply view the delegate's Snapshot profile by pasting their address at the end of this URL:

https://snapshot.org/#/s:gnosis.eth/profile/<DELEGATE_ADDRESS>

(Replace<DELEGATE_ADDRESS> with the actual wallet address you delegated your GNO to)

Once the profile loads, you will see your voting power successfully reflected on the page, sitting right next to their total proposals and votes. 📈
