What is a Passkey?

This article describes briefly the purpose of a Passkey on Gnosis App.

A passkey is a cryptographic credential stored on your device’s secure storage. When you sign in, your device proves to Gnosis App that it has the correct key. Different from traditional "username and password", it's important to know that:

  • The passkey is never sent to Gnosis

  • Gnosis does not store a copy of your passkey

  • If your device no longer has the passkey, then the Gnosis App cannot automatically log you back in

While more secure and arguably easier to use than usernames and passwords, Passkey technology gives full ownership to the user.

To successfully create a passkey in the Gnosis App, you need one of the following:

  • Android: Version 9 and above

  • iOS: Version 16 and above

  • macOS: Version 13 and above

  • Windows: Version 22H2 (Windows 11)

  • Linux: Limited support, mainly Ubuntu 18+
