What's next for Personal CRC?

Understand the relationship between CRC, gCRC, and Reputation. This article explains how minting works, how Reputation influences gCRC conversion, and why gCRC is the primary currency used for spending within Circles.

The new release changes how users interact with Circles by making group CRC (gCRC) the primary currency for spending and everyday transactions. While both CRC and gCRC continue to exist, gCRC becomes the main currency users see and use throughout the app.

Important : Personal CRC cannot be exchanged for gCRC.

How reputation affects minting?

Your Reputation determines how much of your newly minted Circles can be converted into gCRC.

For minting purposes, Reputation is measured on a scale from 0 to 100. A higher Reputation allows a larger portion of newly minted Circles to become gCRC, while the remainder stays as CRC.

For example, if a user has a Reputation score of 60, up to 60% of their newly minted Circles could be converted into gCRC, while the remaining 40% would remain as CRC.

As a result, classical CRC represents the portion of newly minted Circles that is not converted into gCRC.

What Is the Difference Between gCRC and CRC?

gCRC

gCRC is the primary spendable currency within the app. It is used for marketplace purchases, community rewards, and other day-to-day transactions.

The user experience is increasingly centred around gCRC, making it the default currency for economic activity within the ecosystem.

CRC

Personal CRC remains part of the Circles system and continues to be connected through the pathfinder network. Users can still hold and transfer CRC, but it is no longer the primary currency presented for spending. As a result, CRC may appear less prominently throughout the app experience.

What happens at higher reputation levels?

As Reputation increases, a larger share of newly minted Circles can be converted into gCRC. Users with very high Reputation may see most of their mint converted into gCRC, leaving only a small amount as personal CRC.

Once Reputation exceeds 100, it is expected to become independent of minting calculations and instead serve as a signal of participation, reputation, credibility, or status within the ecosystem.

Why is the Gnosis App moving towards gCRC?

The goal is to make transactions simpler and more intuitive. By standardising the spendable experience around gCRC, users can interact with a shared community currency that is designed for everyday use, while personal CRC continues to exist as part of the underlying Circles infrastructure. This approach preserves the benefits of personal Circles while making the user experience easier to understand and use.

Important Notes

Personal CRC is not being removed.

  • Reputation determines how much of newly minted Circles can be converted into gCRC.

  • Higher Reputation generally results in more gCRC and less Personal CRC from newly minted Circles.

  • gCRC is becoming the primary currency for spending and in-app activity.

  • Reputation mechanics and conversion coefficients are still being finalised and may change before release.
