Getting started with our KYC

Learn how the KYC (Know Your Customer) verification process works, what documents are accepted, common reasons for rejection, and why some verifications may take longer than expected.

What is the KYC verification process?

To comply with financial regulations and keep your account secure, identity verification is required before you can fully use your Gnosis Card account.

Your KYC verification is handled securely by Sumsub, our trusted identity verification partner.

The verification process is completed directly on your smartphone and involves three steps:

1. Proof of Identity (POI)

You will be asked to upload a valid government-issued photo ID.

2. Proof of Address (POA)

You must upload a recent document showing your full name and residential address.

3. Liveness Check

You will complete a short selfie or live camera check to confirm that you are the person submitting the documents.

Requirements for Identity Documents (POI)

Your identity document must:

  • Be valid and not expired

  • Be clearly visible and fully readable

  • Be submitted as a complete image without cropping

The following document types are accepted:

  • Passport

  • National ID card

Due to stricter regulations, we do not recommend to use Driving licenses & Residence permit.

Requirements for Proof of Address (POA)

Your Proof of Address document must meet the following requirements:

  1. The document must display your name exactly as shown in your ID

  2. The document must be issued within the last 3 months

  3. Your full residential address must be clearly visible

  4. The document must be a full image or the original PDF document

Screenshots or partial scans will not be accepted.

Which Proof of Address documents are not accepted?

The following document types cannot be accepted for address verification:

  • Neobank statements (such as Revolut, Wise or N26)

  • Mobile phone bills

  • Most government mail

To avoid delays, ensure the uploaded document is complete, recent, and clearly readable.

How long does KYC verification take?

If you're in posession of all the required documents, the process for you should take less than 8 minutes. Then the verifications are completed automatically within a short period of time.

However, in some cases, your application may be flagged for a manual compliance review. This is a normal part of the verification process and does not necessarily indicate a problem with your account. If you have already submitted your KYC verification, you cannot redo the process immediately. You must wait for the review to be completed. Only if the submission is rejected can you start the verification process again.

Manual Review Timeline

  • Manual reviews typically take up to 3 business days

  • During this time, the compliance team may perform additional checks on your submitted information or documents

  • You do not need to resubmit documents unless specifically requested

Verification times may also be longer during periods of high demand.

Why was my verification rejected?

Issues with Existing Gnosis Pay Accounts

If you encounter a message stating that your ID already exists, it means there is an existing Gnosis Pay account associated with your identity. This prevents you from creating a new card request in the Gnosis App until the issue is resolved.

Document verification can fail for several common reasons. Carefully reviewing your submission before uploading can help avoid delays.

Common Reasons for Rejection

  • Your identity document was expired

  • The name or address did not match your Gnosis Pay profile

  • Your Proof of Address document was older than 3 months

  • A screenshot was uploaded instead of a photo or original PDF

  • The image was blurry, cropped, or had glare

  • An unsupported document type was submitted

If your verification is rejected, you can usually try again by uploading a corrected or alternative document. If the issue is related to an existing Gnosis Pay account, you can associate your account to Gnosis App.

Tips to avoid verification Delays

To improve the chances of successful verification on the first attempt:

  • Use a well-lit environment when taking photos

  • Avoid glare, reflections, or shadows on documents

  • Make sure all corners of the document are visible

  • Upload original files whenever possible

  • Double-check that your profile information matches your documents exactly

  • Ensure documents are recent and unexpired

What should I do if my verification is still pending?

If your verification has been pending for less than 3 business days, your application may still be undergoing manual review.

If the review takes longer than expected, or if you experience repeated verification failures, contact the support team for assistance.
